I've already looked at another thread of a new guy, which had links mentioned to two pages on the contemporary shaman which I have read. But I guess this is more just a formal introduction, I've passed through the dark night of the soul, my state is non dual and unfortunately in the process have lost all sense of time and self. Have experimented with a few drugs only to simply stave off suicidal tendencies but not actually for any spiritual reasons.

The life, the élan, of my existence is gone entirely. I'm in dire straits but not looking for, nor certainly expecting a quick fix. More so just guidance, I plead to be guided to some information on the subject, and practices of shamanism that one could regularly engage in. My consciousness is quite stunned, and though I could certainly put more effort into meditation I'm uncertain if my set of conditions would bring any results. I have PTSD, depersonalisation, depression and anxiety. DP and PTSD being the two most dominant disorders. I've lost most connections to my memories and emotions.

I'm just looking for a new path, I have walked down a startlingly treacherous road of inquiry for too long. It's time for a change. I hope everyone is granted the patience, strength and diligence to fight off their individual troubles or afflictions. Have a good day.

welcome!

you are not alone in what you're going through, just remember that foremost. and don't lose hope. having a shamanic bend is like having a pet poltergeist : ) until you learn how to work with it. can i recommend lifting your energy in small swooshes like little sudden fountains if that resonates (while recognizing your boundaries with it and balancing it out with grounding). we also do the recapitulation (self-healing movement at the core of what we do) which there are multiple articles for on the main site. keep moving forward.

Thanks, I just want to clarify I have zero prior understanding of shamanism. So a lot of the lingo is lost to me but I'll keep looking. Is there any way to see notifications on this site?

yeah on this site, it doesn't give you notifications for if you've been replied to or not, or if there are new posts in a thread

Hi Kanon,

Welcome, I don't think we have email notifications activated for forum posts, you can follow a thread but it won't send a message once it's been replied to. The only thing that sends email messages out is when you send a personal message, I think.

The makers are shamans by definition of what we do, which is work with energy beyond the 'normal world' for knowledge and to affect this world. We also work with energy in the everyday world as it is all connected, there really is only an imagined separation. The makers are different from other shamanic traditions in that we don't rely on rituals, power objects or consulting guides as are main way of working. Makers call themselves contemporary shamans because the tradition seeks to evolve alongside the culture its immersed in. So, even though this tradition is very old, the practices fit well into modern life. Makers are similar to all shamanic traditions though in that the first step in becoming a shaman is to self-heal. I think peastacey mentioned the recap. or Recapitulation practice, it's usually the starting point for self-healing for makers. The recapitulation is not just for shamans though, it can be used by anyone to recover energy that's tied up in your past. We start people off by focusing on the 'bad' things in their past, the practice basically recovers the negative emotional energy tied up in memories and leaves you with 'just' a memory and no triggers or reliving of emotional trauma whenever you remember a traumatic or unhappy event.

There are other practices as well for self -healing. As I said, self-healing practices can be used by people, even if they have no intentions of ever becoming a shaman. They can deliver you to a place where you are reconnected with who you were when you came into this world and set you back on a path to creating the life you want to live.

You've come to the right place.

I first found the path that lead here in the military.  We'd congregate in the sand out in the PT course every Sunday, as opposed to the more conventional religions.  I too have PTSD, but it's not from military service, but rather from a person I was with this past year - a woman.

Moving on is not necessarily the same as moving forward.  I always look at things as 'moving forward'.  We're forever moving forward towards whatever brought us here, and that's why you post here now.  The people here are kind and caring, and I can attest to that.  I personally read a lot of books and learn history and work to keep my mind off of things.  When the mood strikes me, as tonight I stepped outside and saw that it looks to be a full moon tomorrow,, I think of where I came from and what is important.

I've always gone my own way, hence my name, 'Varg', or whatever it is here.  I am a true lone wolf.  I realize however that not everyone is - not that it's anything to reach for; it's something some of us are comdemned to.  I say this because you mentioned PTSD.  My response was to draw further within myself where I feel most comfortable.  It may be different for others.

I'm always here - on and off      ;)

-Varg
